I know when I first discovered linocut block printing, I was most in awe of the high contrast crisp lines it produced, and the ability to create identical original works. But what I have discovered in creating my own linocut prints, is that what I really love the most, is just the opposite. It is the ability to create original works that are the same … but different. Different colors, different backgrounds, different depth, different opacity. Some clear and bold. Some a little rough around the edges. Mounted on different color papers. All from the same block.
It can be metaphor for all of us. We are the same, but different. When you look at the photo, what do you notice first … the similarities, or the differences?

And this is what I hope that Block of Birds can celebrate. We are all originals. The same, but different. And we can celebrate both!
Thanks for reading!
